Resolutions - Six Months On

Regular readers of this blog might remember my resolutions for the new academic year. Many people don't like being reminded of what they were 'gonna' do but I find that it sharpens one's instincts so I am going to take a look at what I had resolved to do and where we are now.
1) Italian for Beginners
I never did begin my Italian for Beginners course because it got cancelled. I did order the book and CDs but I have to admit that I have never looked at them. I do keep meaning to rip the CD and start listening to the MP3s but I haven't done that yet.
In my defence though I have made enormous strides in learning Japanese again. This has a higher priority given the fact that I will be going to Japan regularly for work and I can use the language with my colleagues here and it really helps with building relationships with the Japanese people I meet.
Also I have to think about other languages so I have been reading quite a bit in French and Irish which leaves very little time for actually starting to learn Italian.
2) That French Book
I did finish that book ("Le Resquilleur du Louvre") and I am now slowly working my way through another Linguality book ("Portraits de Pechkoff").
3) Speech Recognition
I didn't purchase Dragon Naturally Speaking because I didn't have a PC with enough RAM. However, I recently bought a new laptop that runs Vista and I am currently head over heels in love with the in-built Speech Recognition software. I have followed the tutorial and the software already recognizes what I say with about 85% accuracy and that will only improve. My first blog post authored with speech recognition software will be coming your way soon.
4) DELE Intermedio
My Spanish is on life support now unfortunately as I am just not listening to enough Spanish or reading it often enough. For that reason I won't be sitting the next state exam this year, this is one resolution that will have to wait until next year.
5) Irish Dancing
Luna has been dancing most Sundays since September and her teacher says that she is coming along nicely. I really enjoy meeting the other Irish parents so it is a bit of a bonus for me too that it has all gone well. She will probably enter her first Feis this year. Next year Daisy will start it looks like we will be involved with Irish dancing for a long while to come.
6) Polish School
The older girls have been enjoying Polish school every two weeks so we are glad that they are getting the chance to meet other Polish kids and get more Polish cultural inputs in their lives.
7) No more Mr. Fat Boy
When I made the resolutions in August I was 83kg, I am now about 75-76kg (it fluctuates). There have been no real shifts back upwards. If I can stay at this weight for another six months it will be the first time I have not yo-yoed in several years so let's see how well I can maintain things.
8) Love and Romance
On this score I haven't done so well. We need to get together more regularly to have some more quality time without the kids. This is very much a could do better.

Overall I think that I have done quite well. Some things have been achieved, others not but I have also done a lot of things that I did not expect to do. I must come back to the list again in six months time.

Congrats on the weight loss and the progress with your Japanese.

My main concerns at present are to keep the good exercise work up and to put a solid effort into my term essays.
